Phase I:
Training of Trainers Capacity Building Program on the Enterprise Development & Investment Promotion Program (EDIP) by CII & UNIDO

The Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, CII and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) ITPO and the Arab International Centre for Entrepreneurship & Investment, Bahrain jointly organised a Training of Trainers (ToT)Capacity Building Certificate Program on the Enterprise Development & Investment Promotion (EDIP) for a batch of 25 trainers who were incubator/accelerator managers, VCs and angel investors and/or fund/loan managers and senior academic staff from entrepreneurship centres and business schools. The workshop aimed to equip them with latest knowledge, tools and skills right from the stage of opportunity or potential entrepreneur identification to project implementation so that they can train the innovators and early-stage entrepreneurs for commercialisation and new enterprise creation and help them prepare for investment pitch.

Participants who completed the training were given certificates and will in turn, train identify, select high potential innovators and early-stage entrepreneurs from the i3 platform and train them through regional pre-incubation workshops with the objective to build capacities of potential entrepreneurs and assist them in launching and/or further building their entrepreneurial ventures.

This Training of Trainers program was conducted from 12th to 16th June 2017, at Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Phase II:
i3 Applications & Screening

Applications will be solicited from the public for i3 2017 through an online registration and submission process. After the ToT workshop and on receipt of a considerable number of applications, our expert pool of technical and business experts and the newly trained trainers will conduct an online evaluation process to screen and shortlist the top 100  innovators for the i3 regional workshops on the basis of a competitive selection criteria. 

Phase III:
Regional Fairs & Entrepreneurship Training Workshops

The shortlisted innovators will be invited to participate in the Regional Round, where they will demonstrate their innovations to the Jury that will conduct an on-the-spot evaluation. Participants will be required to carry their prototypes for the presentations and evaluation.
The top 5 winners from all 4 regions will be recognized at the regional level and invited to participate in the final i3 National Fair & Awards Ceremony 2017 in New Delhi.

In recognition of their high-impact innovation and as reward, the 100 screened and shortlisted innovators will be invited to participate in fourexclusive pre-incubationregional workshops on innovation-led entrepreneurship (25 participant in each regional workshop). These regional workshops will be conducted with the objective to build capacities of potential entrepreneurs and assist them in launching and/or further building their entrepreneurial ventures.The workshops will equip the participating innovators with necessary knowledge in the areas of defining a business problem, identifying a solution, market research, the value of incubation and mentoring, and help them prepare a business plan towards setting up their own ventures & and preparing for investment pitch.

Essentially through this new plan 100 shortlisted innovators would be given an opportunity to receive exclusive and high quality pre-incubation training through regional workshops as an award under i3 2017.

Phase IV:
i3 National Fair & Awards Ceremony

Top 20 innovators from all 4 regions will present their innovations in front of a Grand Jury comprising eminent people from the start-up ecosystem, industry, academia and government.

The final winners of the Top Awards will be announced on the same day and will be awarded and recognized at a grand Awards function.

Winners will be connected with incubators, mentors, investors and angel networks to assist them in developing commercial products and services and their start-up journey.

India Innovation Initiative 2017

India Innovation Initiative or i3 is one of India's largest and most-awaited innovation challenges jointly-promoted by the Confederation of Indian Industry, the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to identify, reward and recognize the top innovators from across the country and to enable commercialisation of the best, home-grown innovations through incubation support, mentorship, investor and industry connect. Now in its 9th edition, the focus of i3 2017 is on identifying high-potential innovators who have developed innovations with high-impact, and orienting and training them to become entrepreneurs. This year, the focus is on the human aspect, developing key entrepreneurship skills of innovators for maximum impact.
